Nei giorni scorso un folto gruppo di ex-diplomatici israeliani, anche di alto rango, ha sottoscritto e pubblicato una dura critica al governo Netanyahu per le violenze anti-palestinesi che si succedono in Cisgiordania.
Proponiamo il testo degli ex diplomatici israeliani (in inglese) e, di seguito, il messaggio di sostegno firmato da 47 ex alti funzionari della diplomazia italiana.
We, the undersigned, former Ambassadors and senior Foreign Service officers, call on the Government of Israel to take every measure necessary in order to bring the acts of violence toward the Palestinian residents of the West Bank to an immediate cessation, and to take urgent and determined action against the vicious perpetrators.
This intolerable violence, which has intensified under the cover of war, runs diametrically contrary to any values of governance and morality and is in total violation of international and Israeli law. The absence of any fitting response from the leadership can only be seen as tacit support.
The involvement at times of uniformed soldiers and the use of state-supplied equipment reinforce this sentiment.
As officials who have dedicated their lives to defending the State in the international arena, we are alarmed at the continued erosion of Israel’s global standing, at the consequences of this violence for Israel’s foreign relations and at the damage it is creating for us as a country in which the rule of law and the centrality of our moral values must stand paramount. Without detracting in any way from the right and duty of the IDF to fight Palestinian terror, we demand that the Government of Israel, from the Prime Minister and the Foreign and Defence Ministers onwards, outrightly condemn these criminal acts and the harming of innocent civilians, and we call upon them to eradicate this disgraceful phenomenon without delay.

Noi sottoscritti, ex alti funzionari del Servizio Diplomatico italiano, abbiamo letto con profondo apprezzamento la lettera firmata da un nutrito gruppo di colleghi israeliani, profondamente turbati dalle violenze in corso in Cisgiordania. Tra i firmatari del vostro appello abbiamo notato anche i nomi di diplomatici che hanno servito con onore il nostro Paese, rafforzando i legami di amicizia e cooperazione tra Israele e l’Italia. Nel clima tumultuoso che attualmente scuote il Medio Oriente, desideriamo esprimere il nostro sostegno a coloro che, come voi, lottano per il rispetto dei diritti umani, del diritto internazionale e della pace.
